Mentorship Program

 

Founded in 2021, The STEMinist Empowered Mentorship Program’s goal is to increase the number of women of color graduating with advanced degrees through personal and professional development by equipping participants with the tools, resources and, community required to have continued success on their chosen career path.

The STEMinist Empowered Mentorship Program is a six-month program designed to engage, empower, and retain women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics who are pursuing Graduate degrees through:

  • Career Planning and Professional Development

  • Tools and resources to navigate in the STEM field

  • Exposure to Professional Women in STEM

  • Connection to a community of Women from diverse institutions for communing and peer support

The mentoring syllabus is tailored to focus on key areas that are beneficial in any phase of the graduate program but is not limited to the topics below:

  • Navigating Relationships

  • Mentorship and Sponsorship

  • STEM Entrepreneurship

  • Self-Advocacy

  • Overcoming Challenges

  • Career Planning

The Impact

Why is Mentoring Important?*

  • People of Color were awarded less than 15% of all PhDs awarded in the US over the past 5 years.

  • Women of Color were awarded less than 9% of all PhDs.

  • Studies show that 71% of Fortune 500 companies have mentoring programs and almost 40% of female employees exposed to senior mentors believe in their own leadership trajectory.

Program Overview

For each program cycle, a cohort of 10-12 mentees are chosen to participate in the 6 month program. Each cohort participates in the following: 

  • Six monthly group sessions featuring dynamic guest speakers and roundtable discussions

  • Six monthly 1:1 mentoring sessions
